A powerful chunk of American speed metal. Echoes of Deliverance and Haven abound from this four-piece. Like the majority of metal bands (including my own) Cronic are built around the skills of their lead guitarist, in this case a gentleman by the name of Jeff Stone, his style is aggressive and intricate and lends the cutting edge quality to the material. Scriptural themes are littered throughout the songs, the revelatory theme of "Coming Down", the worshipful "Holy" and the almost obligatory version of the Lord's Prayer. "Our Father". The outstanding tracks are firstly the opener "Gotta Gun" with it's message of social responsibility and the hooky "Father Of Lies". With "Mr Nobody" Cronic delve into the depths of thrash before leading into the more riff-orientated closer, "Open Your Eyes". "50 Years' as a debut reveals an energetic and raw band, surely a great band to see live should they ever visit these shores.
