Now that the mighty (in talent as well as waist line) Fred Hammond has departed from Commissioned there is a clear need for a comprehensive compilation of the Detroit R&B gospellers finest so far. This isn't it. Eight tracks have been hastily selected, four from 'State Of Mind', two from 'Number 7' and two from 'Matters Of The Heart'. The slinky harmonies, belching bass lines and hoarsely exciting lead vocals are still here to thrill us. But most R&B gospel devotees will already have the source albums. For newcomers looking for a budget line introduction only.
