While this was playing my dear wife, who was brought up in a Christian home, commented, "This is like a walk down memory lane for me!" And that's exactly what was intended, an exercise in evangelical nostalgia for all those who attended Billy Graham rallies in the 50s and sang these tuneful songs of devotion to Jesus. Of course, time has not been kind to this music. While in the 50s the world was jiving in the aisles to the raunchy sounds of rock 'n' roll, American evangelicalism was presenting the saints and the searchers with a brand of middle of the road choirs and homespun corn. Only the Scripture readings on many of the songs' introductions still retain immediacy today. For the rest, these florid vocal arrangements and plodding rhythms make the 20 songs and medleys here sound like music from another planet let alone another age. But for those who remember the Crusades and want a piece of musical memorabilia, this is the album you've been waiting for many a long year.
