Great name for a band and great name for an album, although a carefully placed apostrophe might have been good! Syntax aside, Citizen John make their first tentative steps into the scene with a six-song EP. Soundwise, there's a wonderful melancholy indie rock feel to a lot of this where occasionally the band sound like Joy Division, albeit with a girl singer! Though there are some promising moments captured here, the band still haven't defined their sound and the heavier "Wonderful/Marvelous" featuring lead guitarist Ben doing the vocals has some merit, the band would be better served sticking to one vocalist and choosing which direction to venture into - punk angst or ethereal indie. Overall though, the main problem here is that it all sounds a little too sloppy, both the playing and production but this is a first leap and the band have some creative ideas which have made their way onto CD.
