Better known as one half of multi Dove Award winning Out Of The Grey this is Christine’s first solo album. Although husband Scott is much in evidence both producing and playing, this is definitely still an album of Christine’s making on two grounds. Firstly the subject matter – to quote the sleevenotes “this project is about my journey as a little girl becoming a woman of God. I trace the Lord’s hand in my life from childhood upheavals to grown-up struggles.”’ (For more on what those struggles are and other info see the website – christinedente.com). And secondly on a musical basis – although this is similar in style to previous Out Of The Grey releases there are also subtle differences too. The majority of songs have a simple unplugged feel to them being little more than Christine’s excellent voice accompanied by nothing more than a piano or acoustic guitar and maybe a small string section. A lot of the songs reminded me of Joni Mitchell at her best (my wife Audrey who can’t remember Joni Mitchell said Suzanne Vega) and have a gentle laid back summery feel to them which makes for great chill out music after a hard day.
