Recently nominated for Premier Radio's Best Unsigned Act award, Congo-born rapper Kabs has released a fine debut EP which showcases his talents as a songwriter, arranger, producer and instrumentalist. Set to a backdrop of infectious hip-hop rhythms and lush production, this release features songs that proclaim the artist's transformation at the hands of Christ and, whilst only three songs are on offer here, it is clear that Kabs has poured his heart and soul into them. Kabs goes for the radio friendly option in the slick R&B of the opener "I'll Never Turn My Back On U" before launching into "The New Me" which sees him rapping out his testimony without compromise in what must be one of the most accomplished tracks from Britain's hip-hop underground this year. By the time the buoyant song of praise "My Days" arrives, it's evident that Kabs is in his element and a contribution from fellow rappers Jhon and Jozeal is the icing on the cake of this promising debut. Hopefully, a full album is in the pipeline.
