If you can make it past the front cover of this CD, which is frankly cheesier than a year's supply of Cheddar, then you are in for a soulful treat. Chris Jasper is a former member of the legendary Isley Brothers and his latest release contains 10 polished R&B tracks all based on Scripture. It's pretty smooth and uplifting stuff. Chris was the man who wrote "Caravan Of Love" which was a hit for the Housemartins many years ago and some of his earlier tracks have since been covered and sampled by the likes of Gwen Stefani and Whitney Houston. All the tracks were written by Chris himself and he sings passionately throughout, providing both lead and background vocals. If there's one criticism it's that the groove stays stuck in the smooth soul gear throughout. "He's The Judge" and "Come One And Testify" get close to a serious dance beat, but a bit more funk wouldn't go amiss. But this is still a masterclass in soulful worship.
