Aussie Chris Falson, now residing in California, is the latest to be featured in the 'Live Worship' series and this album serves as a reminder that the blurring between praise and worship and CCM is ever narrowing. To get a feel for this, just imagine Chris Rea singing R&B flavoured worship songs with black gospel backing vocals and you're there! "Standing On The Rock" opens the album with some inspired Hammond playing from John Nau and a healthy R&B groove. Some of my favourites are the gentler tunes. "Pure Joy" floats and celebrates the joy that comes from worshipping God and it's worth shelling out your cash just for this song! "Come To The Waters" is an invitation to receive from God featuring beautiful backing from Linda McCrary and others. In fact, it is McCrary's sweet vocal performances on "Help Me To Forgive" and "All Honour" which are the highlights of this recording, contrasting with Falson's raspy gruffness. The raw live feel of this recording suits Falson's songs and if you've not heard his stuff before, this is a recommended place to start. Pure joy!
