Chasing Victory hail from the more melodic end of the hardcore spectrum, drawing comparisons with bands such as Saosin or Hawthorne Heights, rather than Norma Jean or Underoath. The Camilla, Georgia quintet play fairly standard, yet strangely effective music, focussing on life and its trials and temptations They are quite capable of cranking up the distortion when required, but Adam Harrell's voice suits singing better than screaming. Musically the band are technically competent, without being virtuosos. The sound of the band is captured well by producer Nathan Dantzler, providing a clear and uncluttered soundscape. 'Fiends' is the soundtrack of a band who may have been on the brink of getting a big break. However, the album will stand as the band's epitaph as they split up following a tour shortly after release, stating that "we had all lost our passion." Shame.
