Charles Oxtoby, with Andrew Green and John Tate, set out to produce an album with a different type of praise and worship music containing plenty of "space" and very winsome it sounds with its gentle, contemplative, other-worldly feel. Inspired by the prayers and poems of David Adam in the Celtic tradition, "The Open Gate" is a call to explore new areas of yourself and the world around you. I particularly like "Treasure Box", a prayer for God to release his joy and beauty within us, with a pleasant piano accordion accompaniment. Instrumental and use of the spoken word add further variety. This is a useful resource for worship groups seeking fresh material for their local churches. I look forward to future albums from the Oxtoby attic/table tennis room.
