Reviewed by Steve Best This lady is apparently a TV star in the US. She plays Yvonne in the comedy Girlfriends (no, I haven't either), but she can certainly sing, and what's more she wrote, arranged, produced and performed the entirety of this album. This is R&B with elements of jazz ("Darkness Upon The Face"), gospel and even more traditional styles such as folk and even, gasp, blues! ("Blues In F Minor", which is actually in F Major!). Cee Cee has quite a deep voice, but the harmonies are pretty spectacular. Trouble is, I think she's let down by the songs, which just aren't strong or hooky enough to do her voice justice. "Live Your Life" threatens to spark into life, but like much of the material, never seems to get beyond second gear, which is a pity. "Yield To The Light" promises much but never ignites and is let down by poor vocal production. Perhaps Cee Cee took on a bit much doing everything herself, because though well intentioned, 'Everybody's Talkin' sounds like someone trying too hard to please.
