Rob Carlton and Cheryl Paige are two former mainstream musos who have been working together since they were part of a New York Christian band called Sevenfold. When Sevenfold split, Rob and Cheryl decided to form Carlton & Paige and they now offer us their first project together, seven tracks and 36 minutes of well-produced acceptable Christian pop, endorsed by Phil Keaggy, no less, so this ain’t chopped liver by any stretch. Cheryl’s pipes, having been used to advertise numerous household names down the years via radio and TV commercials, are master of the material, all of which is self-penned; Rob, who once was part of Blue Oyster Cult (“Don’t Fear The Reaper” was perhaps their best-remembered song), brings his guitars and his long experience of performing and songwriting. Mix it all together and the result, if rather lacking in a bit of ooomph, is not a bad listen.
