Caleb Litalien is a rapper from Nashua in New Hampshire who goes under the name CS LIT, and his latest album is a 20-song offering of no frills hip-hop made with a Roland 808 drum machine and a handful of synth sounds. Unfortunately, the lack of deviation away from minimal electronic beats and sounds makes for a very unvaried listen and, thanks to each track sounding more or less the same, it's hard not to lose interest even early on in proceedings. In addition, Litalien gives a low-key mumbled delivery - quite often sounding unintentionally bored - and this, along with his flow being overly cryptic and inaccessible, makes the listening experience even more challenging. The rapper's Christian faith is referenced in a few tracks but Litalien's work needs to be much more appealing and interesting if his message is to get across.
