As Hawaiian metal pioneers, this four piece outfit had found themselves particularly overlooked and forgotten about until this 2011 re-issue. Emerging from the hair metal sounds of the late '80s this is heavy rock in the style of Holy Soldier and Stryper. Boasting the production and writing talents of ex-Bloodgood guitarist David Zaffiro there is a touch of class to the crunchy guitar tones and hooky choruses. The tracks alternate between gritty guitar solos and soaring power ballads. "Break The Silence" is a melodic rocker with a particularly catchy chorus whilst "Streets Of The Empty Soul" reveal the band's ability to step into the realms of a heavier style not unlike early Queensryche. The production is clear and crisp, allowing the tight rhythms and quality musicianship to shine through. The only issue I have with what is an enjoyable piece of nostalgia is the vocal styling of Daniel J Ysais. At times he sits between the gritty edge of hard music and the pop smoothness of a chart rocker leaving his performance sounding a little stretched and strained. For fans of glamour and melodic metal this is worth seeking out if you missed it first time round.
