Breakaway is a weekly interdenominational teaching and worship event held at A&M University, Texas. First started back in 1989, it's attendance has grown steadily over the years, now numbering over 5,000 per week. Two previous live recordings have been well received, this one being recorded in Feb 2000. Main worship leaders are Ross King and John Sherrill, both of whom have several solo worship projects to their names. Right from the start the sound is good, Ross and wife Staci opening with their own wonderfully singable "Great Is Your Love", embossed with fine layered harmonies. Then follows a charming selection of strong home-composed tunes (written by King/Sherrill) and ones from Matt Redman, Twila Paris and Vineyard's John Barnett. Literally every track is decidedly worshipful, those making especial impression being the flowing "You Are My God" and a heart-warming rendition of Altrogge's gentle "Pure And Holy Passion". There's a compelling warmth and dedication to this unpretentious set that makes it vastly superior to many other live praise sounds. Great stuff, and I for one can't wait to hear more from this team!
