Bliss Bliss are back after a 15 year break! Renee Garcia (remember her solo albums from the late '80s?) returns with session musician husband Lang Bliss, writing songs about their life: past, present and future. However, instead of the snappy synth pop of yesteryear, the couple have now gone in a jazz direction. The lyrics are refreshingly uncomplicated and unambiguous, telling of faith, love, past regrets and future dreams. As expected, the backing band are first class, serving tasty grooves and delicious riffs à la Steely Dan or Brand New Heavies. There are some classy sax, guitar and keyboard solos woven into the mix too. Renee's voice is the highlight though. Her style actually sounds very English, with crystal clear pronunciation and no lazy vowel abuse. Perhaps a kind of cross between Beverley Knight and Lou Fellingham with early Phatfish. In their own words, they are "back on dream street".
