This live recording from the hugely influential worship ministry emanating from Redding, California, features plenty of new songs and many spontaneous moments from Brian and Jenn Johnson, Jeremy Riddle, William Matthews and Steffany Frizzell. Lyrically there is a strong focus on our response to what God has done for us and ultimately what he has done for the world which is emphasised by the well thought out structure of the album. "To Our God" opens proceedings with the lines "Up from the ashes your love has brought us out of the darkness into the light". This theme is revisited throughout the album, notably in the closing title track when the focus shifts outwards: "For the sake of the world burn like a fire in me, light a flame in my soul for every eye to see". Both these tracks have similar unassuming ethereal beginnings that build to a fully layered orchestration of guitars, strings and vocals to convey the passionate lyrics of the songs. Overall the album errs towards a reflective vibe but there are some more upbeat offerings too such as the catchy and sprightly standout track "In Your Light". The DVD that comes as part of the pack offers a chance to watch all the songs performed at the live recording event with plenty of moody and arty camera angles. There is also a bonus 30 minute insightful and thought provoking documentary where those involved in the project share their views and their heart for worship. This latest Bethel offering feels like a very honest journey through the life of a church rather than a collection of classic tracks or the next big hits, but it will certainly touch many worshippers.
