'Britten - Missa Brevis And Other Works For Treble Voices' suggests that we are concentrating on Benjamin Britten, which may or may not be a good thing, according to taste. We do get his "Missa Brevis" in D and it is, indeed, brevis at just a second over 11 minutes. It is a beautiful piece and sung very well but it is the only Britten on the CD. The remaining 48 minutes allow the Boy Choristers Of Wells Cathedral to run through their paces but in Ampleforth Abbey. Only Kieran White's solos were sung at Wells but one cannot detect any joins and, indeed, it is only right to commend the technical team on capturing a really good acoustic. Kieran White is the featured soloist and is well worth hearing. Other highlights are Nadia Boulanger's "Lux Aeterna", Mendelssohn's "If With All Your Hearts" and Lundy's "Song For A Young Prophet". There are 20 tracks in total and all allow the trebles to shine. Any readers with doubts concerning the state of traditional Anglican treble singing will find their minds and hearts at rest on listening to this.
