When it comes to hip hop albums, I am desperately listening out for something that stands out from the crowd. Something more than a looped beat, a few tinkling bits of music and a monotone voice speaking in rhythm. Originality, some musical moments or a lyrical touch that marks out an album or artist as being different! Occasionally, an album like this one pops up with creative tracks that leap out the speakers. Here, tracks like "III Wind", "Rained Out" and "Last Compound" with their splashes of jazz piano or the funky "Birdsong" with its jazz sax licks and funky groove provide a strong backing for the emcees to do their stuff. The closing "Brave Rhymers" spins along mixing rhythm and lyrical humour in an effective manner! If you like your hip hop mixed with jazz, you'll love this. Phew! What a relief! Rumours of the death of creativity in Christian rap are unfounded!
