PID (otherwise known as Preachers In Disguise) were pioneers in the development of holy hip-hop so it's with considerable expectation that we welcome back to the microphone half of that seminal duo. In many ways this is a continuation of Barry's underrated 'Rugged Witness' album of a few years back, a diverse mixture of West Coast old skool and more progressive raps with a slight jazz colouring in the accompaniments (in fact, the project is subtitled, a little misleadingly, 'An Experimental Fusion Of Hip-Hop & Jazz'). Standouts are the uncompromisingly militant "Blind Leading The Blind" while the impassioned "What Do You Do" with a free form rap and a tasty sax sample is the nearest thing to real jazz/hip-hop experimentation. Today Barry lives in Southern California and is a recording engineer/sound mixer for UCLA's School of the Performing Arts, attending the Valley Vineyard Christian Fellowship. Clearly he is still a major hip-hop talent who deserves much respect.
