The Birmingham-based children's work BIG Ministries, helmed by Steve and Jo Squires, come bouncing back with a strong second album. This set, conceived to engage seven to 11 year olds, skilfully communicates the excitement of God's story. A diverse selection of styles with different varieties of pop, dance and rap are all on show with clear influences ranging from One Direction and JLS to S-Club. Even a few cheeky "borrowed" riffs from the likes of Coldplay and the Superman theme tune crop up! Looking at all kinds of themes and aspects of God's character there is loads here to enthuse kids to find out more about God. With a little adaptation, plenty of these tracks could fit neatly into church all-age services. The simple, biblical lyrics set within fun tunes are ideally thought out for the target audience. Plus there's plenty for parents and other grown ups to enjoy too. The sleevenotes come with helpful extra info and Bible passages to further explore the lyrics. Also available are an accompanying book and DVD with song actions, which can turn a great CD into a wider parental and church resource. This is a great release all round.
