The band formerly known as Bottlerocket used to irritate me with their undisguised ambition to be huge mainstream rockstars whilst continuing to milk the Christian circuit with no desire for ministry. And now finally, thank God, they've put their money where their mouths are and released something aimed at the mainstream. No huge label release yet but this sounds like they have graduated from mere Blink 182 copyists into something a little more sub sub substantial. Johnny always had a way with a catchy tune and has a great voice. "Take Me Away" has an insistent groove and "Over And Out" proves that the band continue with their humorous lyrical approach. The glorious "Remote Control" closes the EP with all the stops pulled out whilst "Cannonball" is as fine a piece of compelling funky rock'n'roll as you'd ever want to hear. A huge leap from their second album and a taster of what is set to be a brilliant mainstream album. And now they have their sights on Radio One, let's hope we see them down the local club and we won't see them on the bill at Spring Harvest or Grapevine.
