AA appeared from nowhere (well, Kentucky Christian College to be exact) in 1992 with a couple of quirky songs "DC10" (which mimicked the metal/rap mix of the Red Hot Chili Peppers) and the pseudo speed-metal "My God". Their album debut was dizzyingly eclectic but now a year of being on the road with Geoff Moore and DC Talk has found the band focusing its diverse stylistic leanings, though there's still quite a bit of genre-hopping. Producers Steve Griffith and the Gotee Brothers (DC Talk's Toby McKeehan, Todd Collins and Joey Elwood) give the band plenty of pizazz. The Gottee-produced hip-hop cut "Can't Take God Away", the hard-edged funk title track with pointed lyrics ("You stretch and you flex/And you swim in your S.E.X./I try to talk about G.O.D./Why you wanna censor me") and "A.K.A. Public School", an excellent companion to Geoff Moore's "Evolution. . .Redefined" are all outstanding. Also, a lot of fun is "Jesus And The California Kid", a quirky mix of the Beach Boys and the Spin Doctors. Yep, these guys have shaped up quick.
