Andy Lowe, from Shropshire, is a keyboard player and record producer and this five-track instrumental EP features his compositional talents and these billowing soundscapes, inspired by the Forest Edge story which you'll find at youtube.com/andylowemusic and summarised by a sentence you'll find on the CD sleeve, "The boy watched [the snowflake] fall and rise, dance circles, these flocks of snowflakes." I purposefully didn't read the story prior to listening to this EP as it's my conviction that projects such as this one have to work in their own right as collections of electronic musical mood pieces. And work they do. Andy has been able to conjure up tracks that are sometimes slightly menacing ("Freeze") and sometimes encapsulate an other-worldly mood ("Wonder"), and though it on occasions reminded me a little of some of Rick Wakeman's instrumental work, for my money that's no bad thing. If your tastes veer towards the ambient end of electronic music, I'd recommend 'Forest Edge'.
