Al Gordon has been doing the rounds with Tim Hughes at worship events recently, so you may have heard him without realising it. 'Future Sound' is his debut release, a mini-album of seven tracks from Survivor Record's Emerge series, a series designed to showcase up and coming worship leaders. On this evidence, Al certainly has potential; these songs are well written, most of them by Al himself, and are delivered with passion and panache. The opener "Morning Star" is the standout track, sparse verses build to a powerful chorus containing lines like "King for evermore, it's You I'm living for," which are focussed on God and draw the listener into worship. I also like that each song has a Bible verse on which it is based, which really helps to ground the lyrics biblically. Al brought over a much rated US guitarist who gives 'Future Sound' plenty of edge though in truth many of the tracks here sound much the same as a lot of other modern worship acts (Tim Hughes in particular).

Just can't stop myself on making this comment. Why bring
over a "much rated US guitarist"? The UK Christian scene is
populated with brilliant musicians. It's bad enough everyone
seems to go to Nashville to produce their albums. What's up
with the UK guys??? Be loyal.
