Do you know this man? Doubt it! (Well, they would if they'd read CR25. Ed) Al Denson is still unknown on this side of the pond despite a cracking previous album 'Reasons' which was generally sadly ignored over here. A plane accident nearly took his life in December '94 and amazingly Denson has quickly returned with an album that reflects his new appreciation of how fragile life really is. The man referred to in the title song is Jesus and Denson continues his burden to challenge listeners to know Jesus. Standout song is "One Nation Under God" with its military drum intro trying to encourage Christians to realise that God wants us to influence the world around us. There is much here to stir faith, whether it is "Pledge To Purity" which calls believers to personal holiness of "Life On The Edge" which is a welcome challenge to believers to go beyond the comfortable into a passionate life for God. With Denson writing great pop music with unforgettable melodies and his songs demonstrating that he still has a great deal to say, I'm just glad he lived to record this album!
