This is AKA Elisha's debut EP, with seven tracks but just five songs. He is based in London but has a strong West African influence, with a hint of reggae. There is a rootsy vibe and a kind of garage band feel to the music, where the timing and tuning isn't always perfect, but the feel, atmosphere and texture are in abundance. The bass goes deep, particularly in the title track, and the guitars get groovy, while the rambling keyboard lines add charisma and character to the sunny laid back vibe. Even the lyrics of "Judgement Day" begin to feel uplifting with this kind of style. AKA Elisha's vocals are confident and engaging, at times fast paced and not without humour. Ministry remains the focus: challenging Christians with a reality-check in "No Time", and encouraging non-believers to find freedom through Jesus in "Heaven's Attention". An intriguing first release that will hopefully generate enough interest to fund a longer and even better follow-up.
