Reviewed by Paul Poulton The Sons have hit the mark fairly and squarely in the centre, with this their second CD. I enjoyed their debut CD and gave it nine squares three years ago, but this has surpassed their debut. It's neat, beautifully put together and is everything the 7 Sons Of Soul have become known for, which is, namely, an ability to capture an early soul feel without sounding outdated. The Chi-lites hit, "Have You Seen Her" is a first class song, the title track has a similar feel, even down to the talking on the song. Al Green's hits "Let's Stay Together" and "I'm Still In Love With You" were masterpieces, but somehow the sextet manage to pull off the same feel in "Prayin' 4 You", which is without doubt a great song and message, which will make you appreciative of anyone who happens to pray for you! As the album progresses, the songs seem familiar (even on first listen) because somehow I seem to have heard these tracks before. They are echoes of distant grooves and moods, which conjure up memories and emotions that I had forgotten. The 7 Sons perform all this magic using today's technology which gives the songs a pristine appearance and quality that is without doubt, 2007. It can't go without being mentioned that their use of backing vocals is quite exceptional, the BV's seem to take up about 60 percent of the spectrum of sound and yet there is still bags of room for rhythm, lead vocals, guitar, keyboards, etc, etc. Their Dixie Hummingbirds tribute, "Thank You Jesus", is played with a kick drum and an electric guitar, through what sounds like an old Fender Twin Amp, very sweet indeed.
