Every now and again a new band emerges and everyone gets really excited so 38th Parallel are currently being touted as the next big thing! There is certainly plenty of modern muscular rock music here from the rapcore of "Three Times Denied" and the title cut as well as the anthemic modern rock of "Higher Ground". All the right sounds are there and the positive message is in place as the band rage against the destructive culture that surrounds them and they cite all the right influences from Linkin Park to P.O.D.. But still a lot of this album feels like rock by numbers rather than the adrenaline rush that's supposed to excite the soul when you hear the next big thing. If you're looking for the future of rock'n'roll, this isn't it but it's still OK.
