Cardiff-based five piece 2nd Nature have only been together for a matter of months and eclectic is the best word to describe their debut album. Musically, the band are still finding their feet so you get funky rock, a mellow ballad or two and acoustic flavoured rock worship. 2nd Nature are fronted by Pete Matthew who writes the majority of the songs. Lyrically they are very strong with many songs giving God's big picture bringing meaning to the mundane. Despite the low budget production, there are moments of musical genius that burst through the occasionally muggy sound. Check out the opening of the epic "Around" with its cycle of vocals reinforcing the theme of the song - we go round in circles not learning the lessons of history until we look to the one who is outside time. "No Excuse" is the best of the funky rock stuff and "Dream A Dream" is a beautiful ballad by anyone's standards. A calling card that indicates this is a band with a lot of promise both musically and in ministry. Be adventurous, check out the album and then book 'em to play at your local pub or college. I think you'll be impressed.
