The third and last barren couple we will look at in this series is Zacharias and Elizabeth and the different angle we get from them is very enlightening. For the full story, read Luke 1: 5-25, 39-80.
Zacharias and Elizabeth had grown used to the idea that they were simply not going to have children. So often we can become complacent in our barrenness and even a place of pain can become our dearest friend because we have grown accustom to it. Ask God to help you to break free from complacency or it will steal your future.
When the angel Gabrielle appeared to Zacharias in the temple he said,
“How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.” Luke 1: 18
They had not the slightest hope, not the tiniest promise they were holding onto but their lack of faith did not stop God providing in their barrenness. Therefore even if you feel like you cannot muster even the tiniest faith like others we have looked at, don’t worry, you’re not alone! May faith and hope stir within you though from the testimony of Zacharias and Elizabeth! Have hope that God will bring forth life from your barrenness.
