We've looked at Hannah before when we did the series on ‘Death Prayers’ but I think it is important we look at her again in the light of her barrenness.
Like last time, we have a barren woman and the most important thing for us to look at is the prayer that she prays out of her barren place. Hannah’s barrenness was for two purposes; one, for God to display His splendour and glory and two, for Hannah to surrender Samuel, her son, into God’s care. Hannah prayed the death prayer and promised God her son if He gave her a child.
"...but will give your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life."
1 Samuel 1: 11
God needed this because God had a greater call and purpose for Samuel’s life than Hannah could have possibly imagined. God allowed the barrenness because He had chosen Samuel to be set apart for Himself and be His prophet.
Sometimes out of our barrenness comes something that could never have happened without it and when we look back in hindsight we understand, but when we go through the pain we struggle to ever understand. Have hope in your prayers that Father has a higher purpose over your life than the small view you see at this moment in time. Learn to trust Him in your prayers and pray out of faith and hope as Hannah did.
God desires our whole lives and maybe, as for Hannah, that is what He desires of you too.
