Shoes may seem an odd part to include in a suit of armour, but in reality without shoes we are of little use. Have you ever just walked a few steps outside without your shoes on? It's hard work and progression is slow, because our feet hurt so much on the hard floor with nothing to protect them. Therefore shoes are very important in the spiritual armour we wear because they allow us to progress quickly. In Joshua 1: 3 it says,
“Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you…”
God promises us the places where we place our feet. This could mean the places in the natural which are in our lives, so our homes, our places of work and literally everywhere we go are claimed for God. This is because we should be a living walking example of the gospel of peace as we live our lives out to other people.
This could also be in the spiritual though as well, therefore meaning that all the places we go to in prayer are claimed for God because we are praying for them.
Shoes are also the first thing to step into a new place, the first part of us to enter and therefore if our shoes are the gospel of peace, if that is the first thing that we usher into a new place or space then that will affect the rest of the time we spend there. It is so important that we take the gospel wherever we go – it needs to be the foundation of our lives.
