Through this series on Prayer and Intercession, we’ve seen from the people we’ve looked at that they were in a place that was very intimate with God. They knew the concerns of His heart and as we saw with Abraham, God consulted them on the matters at hand.
The key to intercession is to listen to God’s heart, listening very often is an art at the best of times. We all like to talk but then get bored when others start to talk themselves, intercession is about listening to God’s heart and caring enough about the things that pain Him so that we pray about them. Jesus speaks very plainly in John 8: 43 where He says:
“Why do you not understand my speech?
Because you are not able to listen to my word.”
We need to learn to listen to God’s voice, just as we have to tune a radio station in to get rid of all the interference or like changing the tracking on a video recorder to get a clear picture; we need to learn to tune our spiritual eyes and ears into God so we can hear and see clearly what He would say to us. How do you do that, you may ask? It’s just about spending the time with God, and practise. If you go to a foreign country where everyone speaks a foreign language to you, eventually you will learn that language. Therefore if we spend more time listening to God, we will hear Him more and more speaking to us, God rarely shouts but generally whispers, so learn to still your heart and mind and maybe today you will hear some of God’s heart…
