This part of the Lord’s Prayer is connected very strongly with the previous line… “Your Kingdom come, Your Will be done” – it cries out that God’s Kingdom would come and His Will would be done on Earth as it is in Heaven… It's where the pray-er asks God for a Heavenly sphere of influence. God’s perfect will and rule is in operation in Heaven and through prayer that can extend through our lives onto earth.
In Revelation 4:6 it says of Heaven “Before the throne there is a sea of crystal.” – this shows how calm Heaven is. While we so often struggle, wondering what will happen next, or how things will work out – in a very non calm way, THROUGH PRAYER we can enter into a pocket of God’s peace where the stillness in Heaven comes and surrounds us on earth.
When we say Your Kingdom come, Your will be done we are saying, “God I trust You with these different things in my life and I want Your outcome not mine.” And out of that trust and surrender God’s peace comes.
Philippians 4:6-7 says “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” When we surrender all things to God through prayer we are not only sharing our hearts with Him, which He loves, but we are also saying “I trust You and will You help me” and its through this that we know God’s peace and earth begins to symbolise how Heaven is – let's pray Heaven down on earth this week…
