This next series on prayer is about God answering prayer and I want to use the frame of the traffic light to unpack this. This is a very old example that I remember being taught as a child and one that I like very much!
Traffic lights are always either on red, amber or green. We’re going to look at how God’s answers to our prayers can be the same; stop, wait for it or go!
God is not a distant and uncaring God, he wants intimate communication with us, which we call prayer – He calls it relationship. When we ask, His desire is to give to us. So often we find that hard to believe especially if there are aspects in our lives where we feel God has taken something or someone away from us. But God is not a thief or robber, He is not a spoil sport or a scrooge but He is the giver of,
“every good gift and every perfect gift”
God delights in giving to His children, read what Jesus says about it in Matthew 7: 9–11.
Yet just like any father He does not want to give His children faulty gifts, damaged goods or harmful or dangerous gifts. He wants to give us “every good… and perfect gift.”
God has more gifts to give to us than we could possibly imagine in our wildest dreams, but so often we fail to ask, or we do not believe He will give to us or even wants to give to us. Start asking God today – but remember God with supply your needs NOT your greeds!!
