So how do we find this heart of God and connect with it in our prayer life, when so often we feel like God is silent? So often its not about the fact that we don’t want to pray with the heart of God or know His will but it's that we simply can’t seem to fathom out what that is or how to find it. Well, here's the hard truth - it’s about waiting on the Lord. I know, it makes me pull my face but God wants us to:
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46: 10
Then it’s out of this stillness that He speaks. It’s in peace that He acts. But in our social insanity and mayhem it’s so hard sometimes to find that stillness and wait. We want everything done now, but God wants you to find your inner self, your peace, the place where you connect with your own spirit and therefore connect with His Holy Spirit. This is where we find what the will of God is.
Praying in the Spirit is a discipline, in Ephesians 6: 18 it says:
“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit…”
This is part of the armour of God. It says in Ephesians 6: 10-17 that we put on the different parts of armour. In the same way, finding that place where your spirit hits the Holy Spirit is a discipline. It’s also about obedience and being obedient to pray for what God calls you to pray for and doing what He calls you to do once we find His will in the spirit. We saw Jesus’ obedience last week in His Gethsemene prayer and so we must be obedient to God’s answers and God’s call to pray!
