The alter of incense is the last item before we step up to a greater level of intimacy and into the Holy of Holies, where the presence of God dwelled. The alter of incense was used to burn incense as a sweet smelling aroma to God. In Revelation it talks about our prayers being like a sweet smelling aroma to God’s heart:
'...and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.' (Revelation 5:8)
As we submit our lives in prayer and supplication to God believing and trusting in Him we are a beautiful aroma to His heart. In surrendering all to Father we become sweet-smelling in His sight,
'And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.' (Ephesians 5:2)
Surrendering all to God takes us up to that final level of intimacy where we step into His presence.
