It is amazing, as we have looked at previously, to know that Jesus is praying and interceding before the throne of God constantly for our needs and our general selves (Hebrews 7:25). Jesus though, prayed for us before we were even born and set three key requests before God for all believers, for all time. These can be nothing less than essential for us to aspire to and walk in as believers if Jesus believed them important enough to pray. This study will look at those three main areas of Jesus’ prayer in John 17:6-26 where Jesus prayed for all believers just prior to His arrest in Gethsemane.
I always find Jesus’ prayer life at this stage so humbling, at a time where He is battling with His human will, is facing the most painful and humiliating death invented and is soon to be betrayed or abandoned by all His friends, He still finds time to pray for us. Jesus’ life speaks of total self-giving and this area in prayer teaches us that we are not only to come to Father to pray for ourselves and our own needs but for others also.
Read through John 17:6-26 in preparation for the next three teachings but also spend some time in prayer for others, no matter what you are going through, you may be surprised at how it even lightens your own burden.
