Zomba group buys out Benson Music Group
MAINSTREAM music giant the Zomba Group (via its Christian music
company Brentwood Music) has bought America's last remaining large
independent record company Benson Music Group. That brings Benson,
Diadem and Tattoo Records into the Brentwood Music fold. Benson,
founded in 1902, currently has 40 artists on its roster and a master
catalogue of 2,200 albums. Benson's music publishing division holds
46,000 copyrights. Jeff Moseley, formerly president of Star Song
Communications, has been appointed president of the Benson Record
Division. This acquisition allows Brentwood to become one of the "big
three" labels in Christian music - the other two being EMI and
Word.
