First seven day Christian music radio station

IN DECEMBER 1997 Britain will have, via satellite, its first national, seven-day-a-week contemporary Christian music radio station. UCB Cross Rhythms, which in December 1996 began broadcasting every Saturday as part of United Christian Broadcasters' programming via the Sky Sports Channel, have announced that it will begin a seven-day-a-week service in December 1997. Said Cross Rhythms' Chris Cole, "The response to our one day programming has been very encouraging and we are convinced that launching UCB Cross Rhythms as a separate station from UCB's inspirational service will meet a very real need. Our long-term aim, of course, is terrestrial radio services for both stations and we now have been granted long wave and medium wave frequencies for these stations.

"But there is much to achieve - not least the building of a transmitter powerful enough to cover Britain - before we can go on air over the whole of the UK on 'ordinary' radio. And in the meantime there are many, many people whose tastes veer towards contemporary Christian music who want a station now. Satellite radio is clearly the way to go for now as we work towards the bigger vision of terrestrial radio." Cole said announcements will be made concerning the satellite carrier and day of launch in due course.
