Sir John Tavener dies in Dorset aged 69
ONE OF THE greatest figures in contemporary classical music, Sir John Tavener, died at
his home in Child Okeford, Dorset on 12th November. His extensive
output included such religious works as "The Whale", "The Protecting
Veil" and "Song For Athene". Once signed to the Beatles' record label
Apple, the compositions and recordings from the talented organist and
composer received huge acclaim. Tavenner was knighted in 2000 for his
services to music and won an Ivor Novello Award.
