Cherrie Anderson of Ooberfuse points to typhoon disaster
A BRITISH Filipina singer, born in Tacloban City, Philippines - the epicentre of the typhoon disaster - has released a single to help aid relief efforts. Cherrie Anderson of the electro-pop group Ooberfuse has released the single "Hidden Light". Cherrie said, "Where can you turn in such a situation of complete devastation where even the authorities with support from the international community are struggling to cope? Filipinos are naturally very resourceful. . .even in the bleakest physical circumstances there is a light shining inside that stiffens resolve encouraging us to carry on come what may. As a British citizen settled here in London I feel powerless to help my family. I have been struggling to make contact with them by the usual channels because electricity is down and the whole infrastructure of civilised life has collapsed. I managed to speak to my mum, dad and sister living in Manila but I have been unable to reach my aunty and cousins living in Tacloban. The silence is profoundly unnerving. I performed 'Hidden Light' at a benefit concert in Croydon on Sunday. Singing has a calming effect on me. I hope the song reassures everyone in Tacloban that our hearts are with them here in London and the UK. We are asking people to donate to DEC http://www.dec.org.uk/."
