Christian singer Christina Grimmie shot dead in Florida
CHRISTIAN singer Christina Grimmie, who starred in Season Six of the US version of TV talent search The Voice, was shot in Orlando as she signed autographs at a merchandise table. The 22-year-old from New Jersey was targeted by a gunman at The Plaza Live concert venue in the centre of the city late on Friday 10th June. The pop and R&B singer amassed 3.1 million followers on YouTube and has released a number of recordings the latest being the EP 'Side A'. Grimmie spoke openly about her Christian faith, writing on her website earlier this year: "Jesus is the only one that can save us. He is the only one that has taken our penalty. He is the bridge that allows us to be restored in Spirit with God."
According to Orlando police, Christina's brother Marcus immediately tackled the killer who then fatally shot himself. Orlando Police Department Chief John Mina has said Marcus' actions were "heroic", saying he "definitely could have prevented future loss of life there". Writing on his Facebook page on Saturday afternoon, Marcus said he had been overwhelmed with messages of support since the atrocity.
