Guitar virtuoso Jason Carter inspired by world travels on new 'Shamal' set.
CLASSICAL and world music guitarist Jason Carter has a new solo CD 'Shamal' out in the marketplace. Said the musician, "This CD began its life three years ago in the desert of Bahrain. I was driving across the desert with some old Bahraini pearl fishermen (who were also musicians) and this small sandstorm came towards us. They started muttering th word 'shamal', and one of the old men looked at me and began singing a song about the shamal. Shamal is a word that is sometimes used in Arabic to describe the wind that brings the sandstorm across the desert. The rest of the pieces were also written whilst 'on the road' in Uzbekistan, UAE, Canada, Germany, Ireland and Finland. I have also recorded two extracts from the Bach 'Cello Suite No 1'. The 'Cello Suite' has been with me for the last year whilst on tour and has become a faithful friend."
