Michelle Shocked releases gospel album
RADICAL post-folk singer Michelle Shocked, who in the past has topped the UK indie charts and enjoyed chart success with such albums as 'Short Sharp Shocked' and 'Captain Swing', demonstrates Christian faith in her new album 'ToHeavenURide'. The Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter wrote about her forthcoming release, "Ask me about my religion. Of course, no one ever does. I was moved by the power of rock 'n' roll. And if you follow the trail from rock 'n' roll, it always leads you back to the blues, sweet soul music and finally to the churches and gospel music." 'ToHeavenURide' was recorded in June 2003 at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and features songs originally recorded by Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the Staple Singers and Fred Hammond as well as four Shocked originals.

Very cool of Sister Shocked to brave yet another genre. At every turn she surprises and delights. Throws her soul into what she does everytime. Can't wait to hear this album! I already have my tickets to the upcoming Union Chapel show on Sept 6th!
