Richard Smallwood Singers man dies 30th December
THE GRAMMY-winning gospel artist and songwriter Richard Smallwood died on 30th December. In
1982 the album 'The Richard Smallwood Singers' spent 87 weeks on
Billboard charts while in 1984 he won Grammy and Dove Awards for his
production on the Quincy Jones and Mervyn Warren album 'Handel's
Messiah: A Soulful Celebration'. Among Smallwood's most popular songs
are "Total Praise", composed in 1996, and "I Love The Lord",
popularised by Whitney Houston in the film The Preacher's Wife.
Smallwood died in Sandy Spring, Maryland due to kidney failure at the
age of 77. ![]()
