'70s soul hitmakers The Independents remembered on new compilation
BRITAIN'S Kent Records have released the album 'Just As Long: The Complete Wand Recordings 1972-74' by The Independents, the vocal group who in the '70s enjoyed eight R&B chart hits. The group featured as their two lead singers Charles "Chuck" Jackson, a half-brother of the Rev Jessie Jackson, and Marvin Yancy who, after the group broke up in 1975, became a Grammy-winning record producer, pastor of Fountain Of Life Baptist Church and the recorder of the solo album 'Heavy Load' which made number four on Billboard's gospel albums chart before his death in 1985 aged 34.
