Baptist conventions reconcilied in Brazil
THE TWO Baptist conventions of Brazil were reconciled during the first
Latin American Baptist Congress on worship in March. The National
Baptist Convention, expelled from the Baptist Convention Of Brazil 35
years ago because of their charismatic worship style, were welcomed to
the very church where they were voted out, First Baptist Church in
Niteroi. "We may not embrace each style, but let there be no worship
wars," said Baptist World Alliance's director of study and research
Rev Tony Cupitt. BWA general secretary Dr Denton Lotz told more than
2,000 musicians, pastors and theologians, "Celebration without
proclamation becomes emotionalism and proclamation without celebration
becomes rationalism."
