Billboard magazine highlights gospel music's success in the mainstream.
GOSPEL music's move into the mainstream is highlighted in a front page article of the March 6th issue of music industry magazine Billboard. Under the title Gospel's Big Steps Into Mainstream the article recorded how Billboard's top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart currently features Smokie Norful, Vickie Winans, CeCe Winans, the Fighting Temptations soundtrack and Michelle Williams. Quoted in the article is Vickie Winans, "With 9/11 and the war, people are looking for something to soothe their pain. They tend to go to church more where they can hear more songs that soothe them. That's why the awareness of gospel music has taken on such a greater power."
